Monster Party – NES Game

A side-scrolling NES action game with a surreal, horror-comedy tone. You play as a boy carrying a baseball bat who is taken to a strange world by a winged alien creature. On foot you swing the bat to knock away enemies and can bat back incoming projectiles, and by transforming into your alien companion you gain the ability to fly and fire shots, at the cost of a limited energy meter. Levels alternate between horizontal platforming stages and interior doors that lead to enclosed boss rooms, and the bosses are the game’s signature: an assortment of absurd, sometimes darkly funny creatures built from food, household objects and monster-movie references. Progress is handled through a password system rather than saving.
