Mortal Kombat – SNES Game

Mortal Kombat on the Super Nintendo converts the arcade fighting game to Nintendo’s 16-bit console, keeping the digitized fighters, one-on-one best-of-three matches, and the control layout of high and low punches and kicks with a separate block button. Special moves use directional inputs, and stunned opponents can be finished with the series’ fatalities. The single-player ladder works its way through the roster toward the closing battles, while two players can fight head-to-head. Arcade stages and their hazards are reproduced, along with the hidden encounters tied to specific conditions. This version was altered for release: the red blood is replaced with gray sweat, and several finishing moves were changed from their arcade forms. Sound and background detail are otherwise close to the coin-op source.
