Rampart – NES Game

Rampart is a conversion of Taito’s arcade strategy game, and it splits play into repeating phases. First you position cannons inside your walled castle, then you fire at enemy ships and troops massing offshore, and finally you rebuild your defenses using falling shapes that drop and rotate in the manner of a puzzle game. You have to enclose at least one castle within an unbroken wall before the timer runs out, or the round ends. The tension comes from balancing where you shoot with how much wall you will be able to repair afterward. The NES version supports one player against the computer as well as head-to-head play, where two commanders fight over the same stretch of coast and try to box each other in.
