Super Adventure Island – SNES Game

Super Adventure Island is a side-scrolling platformer for the Super Nintendo starring Master Higgins. You run left to right through tropical and cavern environments, jumping gaps, avoiding hazards and defeating enemies while a constantly draining vitality meter forces you to keep collecting fruit to stay alive. Contact with an enemy costs you a life outright, so momentum has to be balanced against caution. Weapons and items appear in eggs scattered through the stages, including the axe you can throw in an arc and the skateboard that increases your speed and gives you a buffer against one hit. Each area closes with a boss fight. The game keeps the fast, hazard-heavy structure of the earlier Adventure Island titles while using the SNES hardware for its visuals and music.
