Super Breakout – Gameboy Color Game

Super Breakout is a handheld version of Atari’s brick-breaking arcade game, here on Game Boy Color. You slide a paddle along the bottom of the screen and bounce a ball upward into rows of bricks, clearing them one hit at a time while keeping the ball from falling past you. The angle the ball leaves the paddle depends on where it strikes, so positioning is how you steer shots toward the bricks you still need. Play continues until you run out of balls. It is a reflex and geometry game with no story and very simple controls, built around the escalating pace of a ball that speeds up as the screen empties. The colour display gives the brick rows and playfield more visual separation than the original monochrome handheld hardware allowed.
