Super Metroid – SNES Game

Super Metroid is a side-scrolling action-exploration game for the Super Nintendo. Bounty hunter Samus Aran returns to the planet Zebes after a stolen Metroid hatchling is taken by Ridley, and works her way through a large interconnected underground world. Areas include overgrown caverns, flooded ruins, a lava-filled region and a sunken ship, all linked by elevators and doors. Progress depends on finding upgrades: beam weapons, missiles, the Morph Ball and its bombs, the Grapple Beam, the X-Ray Scope and suits that resist heat and water. New abilities open previously blocked routes, encouraging backtracking, and an automap tracks explored rooms. Boss encounters guard key items, and the game leans on atmosphere and environmental storytelling with little text. Wall jumping and other advanced techniques allow for faster, more direct routes.
