Tetris on the NES is a console version of the falling-block puzzle game. Tetromino pieces descend into a rectangular well and you rotate and shift them to form solid horizontal rows, which then clear and drop the stack above. Speed increases as you clear more lines, and the game ends when the pieces reach the top. Two main game types are offered: a standard endless mode, and one that begins with a partly filled well and asks you to clear a set number of lines. You can choose a starting level and adjust the initial difficulty, and a running score rewards clearing several rows with a single piece. Presentation is straightforward, with simple backgrounds and a selection of background tunes you pick before play begins.
