Archon – NES Game

Archon combines board-game strategy with direct action combat. Two sides, Light and Dark, move fantasy creatures across a grid of squares, and when two pieces land on the same square the game switches to an arena where you control your unit directly, dodging and firing at the opponent until one is destroyed. Each creature has its own movement range, attack style and hit points, so a slow, powerful piece plays very differently from a fast, weak flyer. Some board squares shift between light and dark over time, strengthening or weakening whoever is standing on them, which makes timing an attack as important as choosing the matchup. Spells add further options beyond simple movement. You can play against the computer or against a second player on the NES.
