Lord of the Rings Volume 1 – SNES Game

J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, Volume 1 is a role-playing game for the Super Nintendo that adapts the first part of the story. You control Frodo and gather companions as you travel, viewing the world from an overhead perspective and exploring the Shire, wilderness paths, towns and dungeons. Party members can be switched between and have their own equipment and abilities, and combat happens in real time on the map as you attack enemies you meet. Progress depends heavily on talking to characters, finding items and working out where to go next, with password-style clues and objects needed to open up later areas. The journey covers the road from Hobbiton toward Rivendell and the mines beyond, following the book’s events rather than any film version.
