Spot

Spot: The Video Game is a Nintendo Entertainment System title built around Spot, the red-dot mascot associated with 7 Up. Rather than an action game, it is a board-style strategy game played on a grid: you place pieces to bracket your opponent’s, flipping captured pieces to your colour, in the manner of Reversi. Turns alternate, the board fills up, and whoever controls more of the grid at the end wins, so the interest lies in corner control, edges, and thinking a few moves ahead. Cartoon animations of Spot accompany play, reacting to captures and results and giving the abstract rules a lighter presentation. You can play against the computer or against another player, making it a short-session puzzle and strategy option in the NES library.
