Star Soldier – NES Game

Star Soldier is a vertically scrolling shooter for the NES. You pilot a starfighter through waves of enemy craft and mechanical structures, collecting power-ups that upgrade your shot into wider spreads and stronger fire. Losing a life drops you back to a weaker weapon, so holding onto upgrades is a large part of surviving later stages. Each area ends with a large boss construction that has specific weak points to target while you weave through its attack patterns. Some sections of the scrolling terrain hide destructible panels and bonus targets that reward score-focused play. The game leans on tight enemy formations, memorization and scoring rather than a story, in the style of the arcade-derived shooters of its era.
